The 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, will be held at the Hotel Château Laurier in Québec City, from Thursday 6 May to Saturday
8 May 2010.

This year’s AGM will explore the linkages between biodiversity and cultural diversity, and the potential for strengthening synergies between them, through its focus on the two international years being celebrated in 2010: International Year of Biodiversity and International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures.

The AGM will open with an Informal networking activity and a Poster Session on Thursday 6 May, from 4 – 5 p.m., followed by the launch of the UNESCO World Report on Cultural Diversity from 5:00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Participants are invited to a Welcome Reception at the Assemblée nationale du Québec at 7 p.m., hosted by the Government of Quebec.

The keynote speaker, Hubert Reeves, world-renowned Canadian astrophysicist and populizer of science, will provide his unique perspective on the linkages between biodiversity and cultural diversity on Friday, 7 May.  The presentation will be followed by a dialogue with Mr. Reeves and intersectoral discussions to encourage networking, sharing and learning.

The business meeting, which will be held on Saturday morning, 8 May, will include elections and addresses by the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Canada to UNESCO, the outgoing President and the President designate.

We look forward to welcoming you to Québec.
